Structured Cabling & Fiber Optic Installation

The Part of the Network Nobody Sees Until It Fails

Every device in a commercial building runs on cable somebody pulled. When that cable was planned, labeled and terminated properly, nobody thinks about it for 20 years. When it wasn't, every network problem starts with an hour of tracing wires in the ceiling.

AVTech Specialists installs structured cabling and fiber for offices, schools, churches, medical practices, retail, warehouses and new construction across South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart and Southwest Michigan. We're a networking company first, so the cabling is designed around what will run on it, not just what fits in the budget this month.

What we install

Cat6 and Cat6A data cabling

Horizontal runs from the rack to every workstation, phone, access point, camera and display location. Cat6A where you need 10-gigabit capacity or long PoE runs.

Fiber optic backbone

Single-mode and multimode fiber between floors, between buildings and to high-bandwidth equipment. Fusion-spliced, tested and certified.

Racks, patch panels and cable management

Floor-standing and wall-mount racks, patch panels, vertical and horizontal management, so the rack looks the same in five years as it did at handoff.

Pathways and conduit

Cable tray, J-hooks, sleeves and conduit planned with the GC and electrician on new construction, or retrofitted cleanly in finished spaces.

Low-voltage prewire for new construction

Data, AV, camera, access control, lighting control and shade wiring run before drywall, with pathways left for whatever comes later.

Audio and video cabling

Speaker, HDMI, HDBaseT and control wiring for conference rooms, sanctuaries, classrooms and digital signage.

Camera and access control wiring

PoE runs to every camera location, door controller and reader, with slack and labeling that makes the next add-on easy.

Labeling, testing and documentation

Every run labeled at both ends, tested and certified, with as-built drawings and a port map handed over.

Why it matters who pulls the cable

Tested and certified, not just plugged in

A cable that lights up a link isn't the same as a cable that passes certification. We test every run and give you the results.

Planned for the equipment, not just the drops

Because we also install the network, cameras and AV, the cabling plan accounts for PoE budgets, distances, bandwidth and where the rack actually needs to sit.

Clean work in occupied buildings

We've pulled cable in live offices, operating medical practices and churches between services. Clean, quiet, scheduled around you.

Coordinated with your trades

On new construction we work from the plans with the builder and electrician so pathways, boxes, power and the equipment room are right the first time.

Documentation that outlives the install

Labeled drops, a port map and rack photos. When a new tenant, IT provider or contractor shows up, they'll know exactly what's in the walls.

Our process

  1. Walkthrough or plan review

Existing building: we walk it, look at ceilings, pathways and the rack. New construction: we review plans with the builder and mark drop locations.

  2. Scope

Drop count, cable types, rack layout and pathways in a written scope with a drawing.

  3. Rough-in or retrofit

Cable pulled and pathways installed. On new construction, before drywall. In finished buildings, with minimal disruption.

  4. Termination, testing and labeling

Every run terminated, tested, certified and labeled at both ends.

  5. Documentation handoff

As-builts, port map, test results and rack photos.

Recent cabling projects

Recent work includes complete office cabling for new builds and renovations, fiber backbones between buildings on campus properties, and prewire for multi-tenant and mixed-use construction. Ask us for references.

Cabling questions, answered

Cat6 or Cat6A?

Cat6 handles most office needs today. Cat6A is worth it for 10-gigabit runs, high-power PoE and anywhere you don't want to re-pull cable in ten years. We'll recommend based on what's going on the network.

Do we need fiber?

Between buildings, between floors on a large property, or anywhere runs exceed copper distance limits, yes. Within a single floor, usually not.

Can you cable an occupied office?

Yes. Evenings, weekends and phased work are standard for us.

Do you work with our electrician?

Yes. On new construction we coordinate pathways, boxes and power with the electrician and GC. Low voltage and line voltage have to be planned together.

Can you fix the mess in our existing rack?

Yes. Rack cleanups, re-terminations and labeling are common jobs for us.

Will we get documentation?

Always. Port map, labeling, test results and photos.
