Why a professional install beats a DIY kit
Cameras have gotten cheap and easy to buy, which is exactly why so many people end up with a system that disappoints them. The hardware is rarely the problem. Here is what actually goes wrong.
Placement and coverage
The most common DIY mistake is mounting cameras where it was easy to mount them rather than where they see something useful. Cameras aimed too high catch the top of a head. Cameras facing a driveway at the wrong angle get washed out by headlights every night. We walk the property, map the approach paths and place cameras to cover the points someone would actually use.
Wiring and power
A clean install means cable routed through walls and soffits, terminated properly and weather-sealed at every outdoor penetration. The alternative is cable stapled along a wall, which looks bad, is trivially easy to cut, and fails within a couple of winters.
Network reliability
This is where an IT background pays off. Cameras are network devices, and a dozen of them streaming at once will expose every weakness in a home network. We plan the network alongside the cameras, which is why our systems tend to stay up rather than dropping offline every few weeks.
Mobile access that keeps working
Getting remote viewing running once is easy. Keeping it working through a router change, an ISP swap or a firmware update is the part people give up on. We configure it properly and we are here when something needs adjusting.

Clean installation
Cable routed out of sight, mounts set solidly, outdoor penetrations sealed, and the recorder installed somewhere sensible. We clean up after ourselves. You should not be able to tell we were there except for the cameras.

Walkthrough and support
We set up your app, show you how to pull footage, tune the motion zones with you, and answer questions. Then we are still here afterward when you want to add a camera or something needs adjusting.

Security camera questions, answered
How much does security camera installation cost?
It depends on how many cameras you need, whether the run is wired or wireless, how far the cable has to travel, and whether you want local recording or cloud storage. A straightforward four camera home system and a multi-building commercial system are not in the same universe on price. We do not quote sight unseen. Can I view my cameras from my phone?
Yes. Every system we install is set up for remote viewing on your phone or tablet, so you can check a live feed or pull up recorded footage from anywhere. Part of our handover is sitting down with you and making sure the app is installed, logged in and working on your devices before we leave.
Wired or wireless cameras, which is better?
Wired is more reliable, full stop. A camera on a hardwired connection does not drop off your network, does not fight for bandwidth and does not need batteries changed. Wireless makes sense where running cable is impractical, such as a detached garage or a finished wall we would have to open up. Most of our installs end up being a mix, and our networking background means we plan the wireless portion so it actually holds up.
Do you install cameras for businesses too?
Yes. Roughly half our work is commercial. We install surveillance for retail spaces, offices, warehouses, multi-building properties and light industrial sites, including systems with more cameras, longer retention and multiple user logins. If you need coverage across more than one location, we can plan for that.
Do you service all of Michiana?
Yes. We are based in South Bend and regularly work throughout Michiana, including Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Notre Dame, and across the state line into Niles, St. Joseph and New Buffalo, Michigan. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask.
Do you offer support after installation?
Yes, and this is the part that separates a professional install from a box off a shelf. We walk you through the system before we leave, and we are here afterward if something needs adjusting, if you add a camera later, or if you change internet providers and the system needs reconfiguring.
